They feel that visitors must be pampered as if at a four star resort, however when you have a baby, you should try to go a little easier on yourself. If your visitors offer to help you with the baby, then take advantage of that. You need to focus on the baby and yourself. Of course, you should accommodate them to reason, but do not overwhelm yourself. Be honest with them about your needs.
Try not to overwhelm yourself when planning to entertain your visitors. For instance, instead of offering to cook, perhaps you can get food brought it. Also, do not go crazy trying to make the house perfect. With a new baby, you have more important things to worry about.

It is okay to set boundaries when you have a new baby. If you have local visitors and you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, then it is okay to tell them that you need some time. Do not feel like you have to say yes every time they ask if they can come over. Even with out of town visitors, it is okay to ask that they come at a different time if you know that you will have difficulty handling everything. Oftentimes when a baby is born, everybody wants to come at once – you can try to space it out if you think that would make it easier for you to cope.
