How to have Frugal Fun as a Family
(487 Words)
With the economy in a slowdown, many families are looking for some frugal fun. There are many activities that rate high on enjoyment but low on cost.
Play a family sports game
The family can play a riveting sports game without spending a lot of money. If they have a backyard, then they can do it right at their home; otherwise they can choose a nearby park. You can make a game of baseball with some gloves, a ball and a bat. You can find a basketball hoop to shoot some nets. You can even just get a ball to kick around in an impromptu game of soccer. Not only is this great fun but it is healthy as well.
Make a family performance
You can turn your living room into a performing arts theater. You can have the kids come up with a dance or singing routine. You can also have them come up with a play. You can have the entire family involved or let the kids come up with a performance on their own so that they can show it with the parents as the audience. You can also have one parent team up with half the kids and the other parent team up with the other kids so that you can each show the other a performance.
Board games
It does not cost anything to sit at a board game you already own. Many families do a once a week game night. You can play individually or put the family into teams. There are even some games specifically meant for children to play against adults (such as a trivia game with easy questions for children and difficult questions for adults).
Playground
Playgrounds can be fun for the entire family with young kids. There are many great playgrounds in local areas all around the country. Instead of just watching your children play, go in and play with them. Push them on the swings and chase them around a little for some fun.
Picnic
Going out to eat with the entire family can add up in cost, but a family picnic can be much more reasonable. You can bring all different types of food. You can try to find a nice park so that you can take a walk together afterwards. You may be able to find a park that offers other family fun such as paddleboat rides for reasonable prices. You can go bird watching.
Free community events
Many communities have events that do not cost a lot, and you should take advantage of these. You can look to see if there are any free family-friendly concerts in your area. Sometimes county fairs cost nothing or very little. Use the newspapers and Internet to find out about activities by you.
There are many ways to have frugal fun as a family. Look for the above events to see if any would work for you.
