: How to Leave your Job Gracefully Online

If you choose to leave your job online, it can be worthwhile to be graceful when you do so in order to preserve good relations with them and perhaps even get a recommendation. The following are tips for notifying them of your departure.
Make a personal e-mail
It is not exactly graceful to send a generic “To Whom It May Concern” e-mail to the general company mailbox saying that you are leaving. You should send a personal e-mail to your boss, human resources or whomever else would be appropriate. Make sure to address it to them and send it directly to their e-mail box. You might want to avoid ways that show less effort. Sending a two line facebook message saying “See-ya!” for instance, isn’t generally viewed as a very respectful thing to do.
Start off by thanking the person
You want the person to know that you appreciated the opportunities presented in the job. You can start off an e-mail with this. Even if you do not feel it, it can help to leave on a good note. If you do not want to thank them, you can think of things you have gotten from the position. For instance, you can say that it has been great to work with such a cutting-edge business.
Tell them of your decision in a kind and professional way
Don’t just say “Boy, am I glad to be getting out of here.” A lot of people are used to sending very informal e-mails. You may normally use a great deal of slang and abbreviation. Remember that this is a resignation letter, however, and you want it to be dignified. You can tell them that you have decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere. It is up to you as to whether you want to give the reason. If it is something that makes sense that no one could fault you for such as if you are moving because of your husband’s job, then you can say this. If you do not want to tell them or if it is because you do not like the company, then you can just not mention it or say for personal reasons.
Be sure to include all necessary information in the e-mail. For instance, you can tell them if it is notice or if you are leaving right away. You can tell them how you will return keys, badges, etc. Try to be as courteous as possible, and you will hopefully leave the job with grace and professionalism.
