How to Make over a Family Room
(426 Words)
For many people, the family room is one of the most important rooms in their home. It is often a room that people spend a lot of time in, and it may get a lot of wear and tear from this. Because you spend so much time in it, you may want to update the look now and again, but you may not have the funds or ability to completely change everything out. Fortunately, even small things that you do can give your family room a new appearance.
First, think about the lighting in the family room. The lighting can make a big difference in a room. You might be able to add some lamps and make the entire space seem brighter. You can also change this by adjusting the window treatments in the room. Many people have one or more large windows in their family rooms. Buying new curtains for these can make the room seem very different. For instance, if you change from very dark curtains to very light ones, then the room may seem more spacious.
You can also change the layout of your family room. A different layout may make the entire room seem better. Altering this may make you feel like you are somewhere new.
You can make the floor seem nicer and newer with a few simple changes. For instance, just adding a rug can make a big difference. You might even be able to change the entire floor simply with some stick on carpeting or titles. If you want your wood floor to seem like new, you can refinish it instead of changing it out to save a lot of money and time.
Your furniture in the room might seem old or worn. Instead of changing out the actual furniture, you can look to get new cushions for them or reupholster the old ones. For something even easier, quicker and cheaper, you can simply add a cover to it or put a colorful blanket on top of it.
The walls can also be easily changed. You might be able to paint very quickly to make the whole room look fresh. A different paint color can be a makeover in itself, even if everything else in the room is completely the same. Alternatively, you can add embellishments to the walls, such as using stencils to create a mural. You can also simply change out the wall hangings.
Making over your family room may be easier than you think. Think about whether any of the above techniques could work for you.
