Making Laundry Day Fun
(567 Words)
For most, laundry day is not a day they look forward to. Unfortunately, it is a day that is inevitable. There are different things that you can do in order to make laundry day easier. Try the following techniques.
First, get everyone to chip in and help.
It will also be far easier to do the laundry if you just need to get the clothing from hampers instead of picking it off of the floo rof your children’s rooms. Make sure that everyone knows they need to put the clothing in a special place when they are done with it, and teach your children where to throw everything.
Another way you can make laundry day easier is to separate the clothing into hampers from the beginning. The Learning Channel suggests sorting clothes by color, weight and using mesh bags for delicate clothing items. To illustrate, you can have four (or more) hampers in your laundry room; one for darks, one for lights, one for delicates and one for towels; additional hampers can be used for further divisions if necessary. It will take no more time for you to throw your clothing into the right hamper, but it can save you a ton of time on laundry day since you will not need to separate everything.
Make sure that you have everything where you need it on laundry day. Make sure that you keep your supplies well stocked so that you do not run out of detergent in the middle of laundry day. Also, Country Living recommends inspecting clothes with stubborn stains prior to drying so as not to set the stain with the heat of the dryer.
If you want to get all of your laundry done on the same day, make sure that you have enough time to do all the laundry. You might want to give yourself a little extra time so that if you cannot get to it right away, you will not run out of time. For example, to save electricity, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends air drying clothes; this takes a little extra time due to the proper placement of clothes on the hang dryer.
Have a place set up for you to bring the clothing once it is clean so that you can fold it. You want to make sure that you give yourself enough room so that you can get everything together.
You do not have to do all of the laundry by yourself. If you have children, then ask them to help. Depending on their age, they might be able to help you fold the laundry. From a young age, they can at least take their own clothing to put into their drawers. You can start it out as a game by having them sort their clothing into the right drawers.
You can also give yourself something to distract you during laundry day. For instance, you can set up a TV that you can watch while you fold your laundry. You can listen to music or make it into a fun game with your family. For instance, you can make a race to see who can fold the clothes the quickest. You can even dance as you fold the laundry.
Laundry day does not have to be terrible. The above strategies can make it easier and even fun.
