Oven Features
(463 Words)
Your oven may be one of the most most-used appliances in your home, and it is important to get one that has the features that you need and desire. Ovens come with many different features and more become available as time goes on and new developments are made.
Self-cleaning
Many people would never buy anything but a self-cleaning oven. This can save you hours of time in scraping and scrubbing to get your oven clean. This feature provides a cycle in which the oven gets extremely hot and much of the residue is burned off into ash, which is then easily wiped away. Most of the time you cannot open the oven when it isn’t cleaning mode because of the extreme heat.
Window
You might want an oven that has a good window for you to look through to the food inside. You might want to be able to see how your meals are cooking without opening the door. You will be able to see without disturbing the cooking cycle or creating a safety issue if you have children running around. You might also want an oven that has a light so that you can better see the items within it.
Oven lock
An excellent safety feature for those with children is an oven lock. You may have to press and hold down a button and then the oven will lock. Usually, you will not be able to turn on the oven while it is locked. Generally, you will have to hold down the same button to make it serviceable again. This can go a long way to preventing children from accidentally or purposefully turning on the oven and creating a safety hazard.
Digital controls
Many people also look for ovens that have digital and electronic controls. This can make it easy to set an exact temperature instead of guessing what number the knob in on.
Electronic timer
You might also want an oven that has an electronic timer on it. This can make it easy for you to know when your food is done. Some ovens let you set a specific amount of time for it to cook, and it will automatically turn itself off after this time. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should leave the oven unintended because that is still not safe.
Convection
You might want to look for an oven that has some sort of speed cooking option. A convection fan can help the hot air move around better, according to Consumer Reports, and speed up the cooking. Some models have additional features such as a microwave feature or trivection, which cooks in several ways.
