Buying your Daughter her first Barbie

(431 Words)
The classic, iconic Barbie doll has been a favorite for generations. New mothers may be very excited about buying their daughter her very first Barbie, however, Barbie dolls are not made for infants and very young toddlers. The exact age that a little girl will be ready for her first Barbie will vary by her particular characteristics.
First almost all Barbie dolls are made for children who are at least three years in age. Most of them contain small parts such as shoes that can be removed. If the child removes these and puts them in her mouth, she could choke. It is not enough to simply take away the accessories because even the doll can come apart without too much effort (i.e. the head could come off and create a new choking hazard). Look on the box of the particular doll and make sure that your child is old enough to use it.
Just because your daughter is three does not mean she is ready for Barbie. Think about what she plays with. Does she enjoy playing with dolls? Can she play pretend? You do not want to buy her a bunch of them for her to quickly undress them and then cast them aside. Some little girls prefer playing with small dolls at first because they are easier to handle.
Think about whether your daughter shows interest in Barbie. She may enjoy it more if she is old enough for the Barbie Moves such as The Princess and the Popstar. This may make her want to get the dolls.
Also consider when she will be old enough to understand the different types of Barbie dolls. Barbie can be used to teach about different professions and cultures.
You should use considerations when considering when to buy your daughter a special Barbie such as a special edition or collector’s item Barbie. If you want a doll that she will happily display in her room and not play with then you will need to wait until she is old enough to understand that concept and be happy to use it as a decoration. You do not want to spend $100 for a beautiful doll only to have it ruined the next day. You also do not want it tempting her, making her miserable because she wants to play with it even if she is mature enough not to do so because you say not to.
There are many different types of Barbie dolls. Go to the Mattel shop to see what is available when your daughter is ready for her first one.
