Plastic Surgery are you really a Good Candidate

Whether or not you are a good candidate for plastic surgery depends on a wide variety of factors. It is vital to find this out before you go in for any procedure since some surgeries can be dangerous for someone with certain pre-existing conditions.
Good general physical health
Plastic surgery carries risks for even the healthiest of people. Those who are physically compromised are even more vulnerable. In certain procedures, pre-existing medical conditions will rule you out while in other cases extra precautions may have to be taken. You will need to understand any additional risk.
There are many different medical conditions that may affect your candidacy for plastic surgery. These include but are not limited to cardiovascular problems, hypertension, diabetes, prior reactions to anesthesia and more. Plastic surgeons will typically require a complete medical history and possibly a medical exam to be sure that you are in good enough physical shape to undergo the cosmetic procedure.
Good mental health
Those with mental health disorders such as depression or body image disorders may go into plastic surgery for all of the wrong reasons. They may be looking to fix something that cannot be fixed – oftentimes their self-esteem. There have been cases in which patients have gone in for surgery after surgery in an attempt to reach an unattainable perfection. The decision to have plastic surgery is a serious one and needs to be considered by a completely rational and competent mind. It carries risks and is often not reversible. You do not want to make a rash choice based on a mental health problem and not a true desire to change something.
Realistic expectations
Some patients go into plastic surgery expecting to emerge looking like their favorite movie star. Not only is this usually unrealistic but it can make them a bad candidate. There is no point to go through a major surgery if you are just going to be disappointed with the results. You need to have a clear and realistic expectation with what you will get and be happy with it.
Requirements specific to the procedure
Of course each procedure carries with it an entire host of surgery-specific requirements to define candidacy. For instance, many of the weight loss surgeries require that you be a certain amount overweight.
Before undergoing any plastic surgery you should make sure that you are a good candidate. Speak to your doctor about the intricacies of the specific procedure and whether it is right for you.
