Preschool Bulletin Board Ideas the Library
It is important to promote a love of reading within young children. The library presents a wonderful opportunity for children to explore a wonderful resource that can give them access to the great books of the world. A bulletin board can be utilized to teach preschoolers about libraries. There are various ways you can create such a display.
Start with an attractive background
Before you put in your main board you want to make sure that the board is attractive. Find an appropriate border such as one that has the letters of the alphabet on it. You can use this later to ask the children to identify the letters. You can get a wallpaper of books or just choose a solid color for the background. Embellishments may include book jackets or actual books, stickers of books or letters, pictures of children reading or pretend library cards.
“How to use the library” bulletin board
Some preschoolers may not be familiar with the way that a library works. Create a bulletin board that promotes this. Of course most children of this age cannot yet read so you will need to use photographs, pictures and other illustrations to show the process.
Start off with a picture of the library from the outside. If the preschool has a library then show that one in particular. You can then show a picture of the inside of a library. The theme of the next photograph should be a child getting a library card. The next one could showcase someone searching through the books and selecting one. The child can then go and check it out. Of course do not forget the step of the child returning the book afterwards. Even if the children cannot read you can include small captions underneath the pictures that you can read to them.
Of course it is wonderful to get the kids involved. One fun idea is to take a class trip to a library. Take photographs of them doing the aforementioned steps, and then make the bulletin board out of those pictures. The kids will enjoy seeing their photographs. You can also have them draw pictures of themselves at the library with art supplies like crayons, markers and colored pencils.
“Story” bulletin board
Instead of just showing pictures of the different steps one takes at a library, you can make it a story. Place up frames like a comic strip. Show a character of a little boy going to the library for the first time, including the steps he takes to check out books.
The library will be a wonderful resource for preschoolers for years to come. For more links to bulletin board ideas, visit Discovery Education.
