Preschool Bulletin Board Ideas Things that Swim
Preschoolers love the water and the swimming creature that make it their home. A bulletin board on things that swim can be a lot of fun for kids of this age. Be creative to make a board that they will remember.
An actual, true-to-life, real live fish bulletin board
You can put a real live fish as part of your bulletin board. Obviously you will need to securely attach the tank. The best way might be to attach a shelf to the board. Some small tanks are made to be wall mounted. Of course make certain that it is high enough that the kids cannot touch it.
A beta fish can make an excellent fish for your tank since they do well in small tanks and are very colorful. Around the fish you can place pictures of other fish and creatures that swim. You can also put in enlarged photographs so that they can see what they look like close up. Remember that most preschoolers cannot read so you may want to use pictures to show the lessons. For instance, you can show pictures of the food that you feed them.
Create an ocean on your bulletin board
Of course not all teachers are going to want the responsibility of an actual fish. Instead you can add in pictures, photographs and drawings of seaworthy creatures instead. Make your bulletin board look like the ocean. You can use blue cellophane to represent the sea. Make it seem realistic with a small stick on light for the sun in the sky. Place a small music player that replicates the sounds of water lapping. Now you need to attach the fish and other items that swim in the form of stuffed animals, photographs, or drawings.
If you want to get the children involved, then have them create these swimming creatures. For instance, they can color pictures of fish, cut them out and attach them to the board. They can make crafts with embellishments like sequins, beads, and foil for scales. You can also have them make other items that swim such as people or submarines.
Story of the sea
The bulletin board can be the story of the sea. Draw in frames to create a storyboard. The main character can be Finny the Fish. He can meet other things that swim such as other fish, sea turtles, penguins and more.
Use your bulletin board to teach
You can teach other important lessons at the same time that you teach about the sea creatures. For instance, let the children count the fish or guess the first letter of the different types of creatures.
A bulletin board about things that swim can be a lot of fun for children. Be creative and meticulous with your board. Add in a “fishy” border and put in other embellishments such as stickers of fish. With time and effort, you can craft a seaworthy masterpiece.
