You may love your snazzy little black dress and wear it every opportunity that you can get. One place where you might want to forgo a dress of this color would be at a wedding. There are a variety of reasons why wearing black to weddings is inappropriate.
People associate it with mourning and funerals
A wedding is about a new beginning. It heralds the coming together of two souls. For many, they associate black with the customary color that you wear when you go to a funeral or when you are in mourning. It is a somber color, which many people will feel is not in the right mood for a wedding.
Someone may feel that you do not wish the couple well
Black is considered a taboo color in a lot of weddings. If you wear it some people may think that you are purposely trying to be disrespectful to the marrying couple. They may think that you view the wedding as some sort of negative thing. They may feel that you do not think the marriage is going to last or they may look at it as a bad omen.
It may draw the attention to you when it should be on the bride
Because black is a color that many consider inappropriate at a wedding, other guests may think poorly of you if you wear it. You may take some of the attention away from where it should be – with the bride and groom. What’s more, it will be negative and not positive attention. Not only might the wedding couple be upset that you are wearing black to their wedding, but they may be further frustrated if people are starting to talk about you and they overhear it.
It may be too sexy
Some black dresses are made to be very sexy. If this is the case, then it might not be appropriate for the wedding for that reason as well.
It may stand out in the pictures
Chances are that there will be photographer preserving memories forever. Not only may you offend someone during the day with your black outfit, but then the memories might be preserved with the wedding photos for all time. Every time the couple looks at them they will see what you wore.
A lot of people do not feel that black is appropriate to wear to a wedding. With so many other choices from which to choose, you may want to leave the black items at home for these special occasions.
