Should you Buy a Warranty with a Mattress
When you buy a mattress, the salesperson is likely to try to sell you a warranty to go with it. Oftentimes, the mattress will come with a warranty and the extended warranty will cover additional problems or simply go on for a longer span of time. Generally, for most people, this does not work out financially. Consider all of the advantages and disadvantages of such a warranty when deciding whether to purchase it.
A warranty can help protect you if something goes wrong, such as a defect. For instance, if there is a broken spring or a seam that opens, this may be covered by the warranty. This may cover the flaws that are related to the materials, design or construction of the mattress. You may get the mattress fixed or replaced based on the warranty; whereas without it, you would’ve had to incur this cost on your own.
Of course, the biggest disadvantage is that you have to pay for the warranty. This can be substantial and there’s a good chance that you will never make a claim on it.
Many of the mattress warranties have a great deal of limitations and exclusions. They will invalidate your warranty based on things that are unlikely to cause the problem with the mattress. For instance, you may have your warrant be completely voided if you get a slight stain on it. Obviously a small stain is unlikely to cause a spring to break, but they will use that as an excuse not to pay out the claim.
There are many other things that may invalidate your warranty without you even realizing it. For instance, if you do not have the correct foundation then they may not honor your claim, according to Good Bed. It may also be invalidated if you do not turn or flip the mattress as required. Even if tags are removed or if you lose your receipt or warranty, you may lose the right to the claim. It will be very frustrating if you spend the money for a warranty and they do not pay for it because of a loophole.
Many of the problems that you encounter may be covered by the original warranty. In addition, a lot of things that go wrong are not covered by the warranty. Most mattresses become worn as time goes on. They may sag or become less comfortable. What is considered normal wear and tear is not generally covered by the warranty. The problems that occur most common may not matter with the warranty.
Consider the mattress as well as the exact warranty terms and limitations when deciding whether to purchase one. The salesperson generally gets money for every warranty, so do not go based on his opinion but instead by your own research.
