The best time to buy school supplies will depend on you and the school. The following points can help you decide when is the best time for you to make such a purchase.
If you are going away for the summer, consider buying them before you leave
A lot of people choose to go away for the summer. They may be gone and only just come back right before school starts. They may want to get things done before they go on the vacation so that they do not have to come back and worry about it. They might decide to go in June or right before their vacation.
Look to buy when the sales start to come
As the school year approaches, school supplies will often go on sale. You may be able to save a significant amount of money. For instance, Toys R Us will even have sales in which you can buy one box of crayons and get two for free! Oftentimes it is in late July that the stores start pushing the school supplies and might start running sales.
Buy when you get the list of requested or required school supplies from the teacher or school
A lot of schools now have a specific list of school supplies that each student needs to get. If you know this is going to be the case, then you might want to wait until you get the list. You do not want to spend a lot of money on school supplies only to find out that you cannot use them because they are not the specific items the school or teacher wants. Sometimes this list is posted on the school’s website. You could also call the school as well.
In the weeks leading up to the beginning of school
A lot of students like to buy their school supplies a week or two before school begins. This gives them time to leisurely shop but they get them in time.
After the first day of school
Some students will wait until they go to school the first day to find out what the teacher wants if a list wasn’t provided beforehand.
When the items go on clearance
If you won’t get in trouble you may want to wait a little to buy them all. Some stores start to put school supplies on clearance and you can save a significant amount of money.
There is no one perfect time to buy school supplies because it will depend on your student and the school. Consider the above points when deciding what the best time is for you.
