Timing a Baby Shower
(407 Words)
There is no exact right time to throw a baby shower because there are a variety of considerations. Many of these specifically refer to the particular couple. Consider the following points when choosing the right time for the special event.
First, you do not want to make it too early. Unfortunately, many early pregnancies end in miscarriage. Most people would never consider having a baby shower until after the first trimester.
If the parents-to-be will be finding out the gender, then you do not want to throw the baby shower until after that takes place. Guests will often buy gifts that are for a specific gender.
You need to give time for the parents to form a gift registry. It would be great if the guests could choose items that the parents will really need. They may need time to decide on a nursery theme.
Just as it is important to make sure that you do not throw a baby shower too early, it is also important not to throw one too late. Many people automatically avoid throwing a baby shower in the last month, for instance. You not want the baby coming early and being present at his or her own shower! You might have to skip it altogether if this happens. Also, many mothers-to-be are tired, achy and overwhelmed in that last month and don’t want to have to worry about a baby shower.
In some cases, you might want to avoid the last two months, especially if the woman has any medical issues. For instance, if she is likely to go on bed rest, then you might want to schedule it earlier. Also, the parents might want time to get the nursery ready with the gifts they get from the shower.
If the baby shower is not a surprise, then talk to the mother about when she wants it. Many people choose to do it sometime at the end of the second trimester or at the beginning to middle of the last trimester. There are also logistical considerations. For instance, if you live in a very cold area and she is delivering in the winter, you might want to do it earlier so that more people can come. Also make sure key people can attend such as the future grandmothers.
There is no right or wrong time to throw a baby shower. All of the above points should be considered when planning this event.
