(426 Words)
Spanish is a challenging language to learn, yet it can be very useful since it is spoken in so many countries including Spain, locations in South America and even commonly in many places across America such as Florida and Texas. Try these tips to help you learn this language.
Try computer-based learning
A lot of people find that they learn well through the computer. It can be interactive, which can be very conducive to learning. For instance, the Rosetta Stone software for Spanish will say a word in Spanish and then you will need to pick out the picture that goes with it. There are also many websites with free information such as www.studyspanish.com.
Study in your spare time
You can buy books on learning Spanish. You can even buy vocabulary tapes to listen to while you are driving to and from work. You can make your own. If you are going to a doctor’s waiting room, then you can bring along homemade flash cards with the Spanish word on one side and the English word on one side.
Immerse yourself as much as possible
The best way to learn would be to go somewhere where Spanish is all around you. You can take an in-country course through Don Quijote (www.donquijote.org). They offer classes in a variety of cities such as Barcelona. If you cannot travel such a long distance, then you can take a community class such as those offered by the Broward County community school system. You can even just talk to friends who know Spanish. When you are watching television, then put on something in Spanish with a dictionary next to you. Read a Spanish newspaper such as El Nuevo Herald.
Study as often as possible
No matter what method you choose to study Spanish, you should do it as much as possible. If you only do it once a week, for instance, then you might forget things and need to relearn them over. If you can do it every day, then that will be the best. Also, as you do it you might want to review over the past words and lessons that you have learned. For instance, if last week you taught yourself the ways to conjugate a certain number of verbs, then go over those quickly so that you will remember everything.
Tackling Spanish can be difficult but with patience and dedication you can do it. You might find that you learn best by using a multi-faceted approach and trying several or all of the above techniques to help you.
