:
(505 Words)
The assisted living facility that you or a family member chooses can set the standard for your entire life. It is important to find a quality assisted living facility that fits your needs. Consider the following tips for selecting such a place.
First decide on your budget
Before you even start looking at assisted living facilities you may want to decide on a budget. Assisted living facilities can cost thousands of dollars a month or more, and some are significantly more than others. You do not want to fall in love with a place only to find that you cannot afford it. Consider what financial assistance they might offer and what programs you might be eligible for.
Look at the rooms
You will want to select an assisted living facility whose rooms you like. You or your loved one should be comfortable since it will be their new home. Are the rooms comfortable? Try out the beds and see how you like them. Would you share a room or have your own? What safety features do they have? Look at the furniture that is provided if it is furnished.
Consider the activities that they offer
You want to choose an assisted living facility that has good activities. It can make all the difference to someone if they can do things and still feel like they are partaking. Many assisted living families have activities all day such as bingo, arts and crafts and so forth. A lot of them also have live singers and some of them also have day trips so that the residents can get out. Also consider what they do for the holidays such as parties or religious services.
Find somewhere with nice common areas
You want them to be comfortable in the common areas. They should be well-appointed with comfortable seating.
Consider the food
You want your loved one to enjoy the food in the assisted living facility. This can range greatly, both in quality and quantity. You might want to try it instead of just asking how it is since they will probably say great no matter what.
Find somewhere where the staff is kind
In some assisted living facilities the staff is very well chosen and reasonably paid. You can usually tell because they are often nicer to the residents. In some facilities that do not pay well, they get people who are just looking for any job. They may be apathetic or even abusive to the residents. You want to see how they interact with the residents. The residents in an assisted living facility should always be treated with respect no matter how they are acting.
It is important to find a quality assisted living facility. Do your research and ask for recommendations from people. You also might be able to get a professional recommendation from a professional like a physician. If the resident is not happy with their choice, do not be afraid to switch. Use the above tips to help you find the best place for you.
