: Tips on how Nonprofits can Raise Donations during a Recession

:
(402 Words)
It can be difficult for nonprofits to raise money during a recession. Many people are worried about their own financial situation and may not have a lot of money to give. Nonprofits may find success by reaching out in the following ways.
Utilize social networking sites
Websites like Facebook and Twitter can be a great way to reach a lot of people in an easy and inexpensive manner. You can make a Facebook page that lists your mission and what it is that you do. You can put up photographs showing compelling images such as pictures of children if that is your focus. You might not have a lot of extra funds because of the recession. This can be a great way to advertise and get you to reach a lot of people with a lot less of the cost of hiring people to make phone calls or paying for an ad in a newspaper or magazine. You can send out messages and ask that people send them out to their friends and hopefully they can spread out from there.
Set up a line that people can text to in order to raise donations
Many people do not donate during a recession because they feel that it is too much of a hassle. You can get around this and perhaps reach a lot more people by setting it up that they can text a message and an automatic donation will show up on their bill. You can make it a very small amount such as $5 or $10 that people will still feel comfortable giving even during the time of a recession.
Stress that any donation, no matter how small, is worthwhile
People might not donate during a recession because they may feel like they cannot afford to make a significant donation. Of course, many nonprofits consider any donation to be significant because they can add up together to become large. When you are making your marketing materials during such a difficult economy you can talk about how anything can make a difference, even just a few dollars. You can say what a few dollars can purchase such as a vaccine or a meal for a hungry family.
Even in a recession, a nonprofit can still find a way to garner donations. You can look at the above ideas to see if any of them can be incorporated into your strategic plans.
