What to do when your Child will only Eat one Food

Some children decide to embark on a diet consisting of a single food. Many kids love chicken strips, and some may become so accustomed to their favorite food that they want to eat nothing else. Of course children need a balanced diet that consists of many food groups. In addition to protein, they need to have fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and other items. There are many strategies that you can take when your child wants chicken strips and nothing else.
Go shopping with your child
Take your child grocery shopping so that he or she can pick out what he or she wants. There are so many delicious things at the grocery store; he or she will hopefully find other things to try.
Another idea is to show your child a cookbook and let him or her point out anything that looks appetizing. There are many cookbooks that are made for children. Look for one that has a lot of pictures of great-looking food.
Role model
Your child may be interested in eating other things if he or she sees others eating it, especially if your child looks up to those people. For instance, if there is an older sibling that the child looks up to, then you can have him or her show how great the other food is. Your child may want to emulate his or her role model and try the different foods.
Let your child cook with you
A lot of children enjoy cooking. They may feel grown up when they do it. One option is to let your child help you prepare food that is NOT chicken strips. Because they have prepared the food, they may be more likely to want to try it. Find a recipe that allows them to help a lot in activities such as mixing.
Don’t give in
You should not give in and let your child have chicken strips for every meal. You will teach him or her that it is okay. You should serve other foods. Your child may say that he or she will not eat anything else, but realistically he or she will get hungry and try other things. If you only serve what he or she likes, then your child may get more and more stubborn about it.
It is important for children to eat balanced meals. Try the above strategies if you have a child who refuses everything but chicken strips.
