What to look for when Choosing a Dog
A dog can be like a member of the family. It is also a big commitment, so you want to make sure that you find the dog that is right for you. The following are some things to look for when choosing your new best friend.
A dog with the personality you would prefer
There is no one personality type that is ideal for everyone. A lot of people want the friendliest dog that they can get. They want a dog that they can play with. Some want a dog with a little more of an edge. Some want a tiny dog that will cuddle in their lap every time a storm comes that they can take care of.
Of course almost everyone is going to want a loyal dog. A lot of people want a dog that will just follow them everywhere and truly be a companion.
A dog that will provide the security that you want
If you are looking for a dog to provide security then there are certain things that you look for. For some it is not about the size of a dog but how loud it is. Burglars do not really like to be breaking into a house that has a very loud dog in it because it can attract attention. Also, if you truly want the dog to protect you and be something that would-be criminals would be afraid of then you will want to get a bigger dog and one that looks like (and would) attack someone who was breaking into the house.
If you have children, look for a dog that is safe around them
Some dogs are great with adults, but less than ideal for children. Perhaps they would be too rough with children. Above all, you want to know that your kids are safe with your new pet. Make sure that you are 100% sure of this before you get him.
A dog that is the size you want
Some people only have a little room in their house or a restriction by a housing administration and thus want only a tiny dog. They might want to be able to handle him or her easily. Some want a huge dog. Larger dogs tend to eat more obviously.
There are many different breeds as well as mixed dogs, which will affect all of the above factors. You might want to spend a little time playing with a dog before you get it. Also, you should strongly consider going to the pound and saving a dog that is a little older. Use the above factors to help you pick out the dog that is right for you.
