For many people, it is better to send a hand written note instead of e-mailing or telephoning. The following are some reasons for this.
It seems more personal
A lot of people feel that a hand written note is more personal than an e-mail or a telephone call. It shows more effort. Some people feel like it is more of a big deal and will appreciate it. This is especially nice if it is something like a birthday greeting or a thank you card.
It is something tangible that the person can keep to remind them
If the information is something that they need to remember then a hand written note can be more useful. When people hear something on the telephone they may forget what you said. Even if they write it down right away, they could possibly misunderstand something or accidentally write it down wrong. They will then have to contact you again if they forget. With an e-mail they will have to go to the trouble of printing it out and depending on where they are they might not have a printer or be able to do that. Also, sometimes e-mails get lost in cyberspace or accidentally get deleted. They can put the hand written note on the fridge or in a special spot. Also, if the hand written note is about something special then it might be something that will actually become a keepsake for someone. They might treasure it or even hang it in a frame if it is something that is truly important.
You can make sure to get all of the information written down
Sometimes you have a lot to tell someone. You want to be sure to get it all in. If you call someone, you might forget to tell somebody something, and it could be important. Even if you are sending a quick e-mail, you might forget. If you write out a hand written note then you can hold onto it for a little while to make sure that it has everything.
You can draw pictures or add other things
You might want to have your child draw a little picture. You might want to include your signature. There are things that you just cannot include in a phone call or an e-mail.
A hand written note can be very nice and practical as well. For the reasons listed above, you may want to choose this method of communication above the sending of an e-mail or a phone call.
