(487 Words)
A workout buddy provides many advantages. He or she can motivate you, make exercise more fun and make you more likely to keep up with an exercise program. It is very important to have the right exercise buddy, however, because the wrong one can actually hold you back. Look for the following signs that it might be time to break up with your exercise buddy.
Schedule
You may need to break up if you can’t find times to exercise. It is very important to exercise on a regular basis. You should be getting out there at least five times a week, with or without your buddy. If you cannot schedule enough time with your workout buddy then it does not make sense, especially if you need your workout buddy to exercise such as if you will be playing a sport like racquetball.
Convenience
Also, you want to make sure that he or she has available time that is also convenient for you. If you find that you are always grumbling about exercising at inconvenient times then you might want to break up with your workout buddy. If you find are exercising less and less then it is a problem.
Dependability
Also, it is a very big problem if your workout buddy makes plans to exercise and then backs out at the last minute. You need someone you can count on.
Different fitness levels
You may need to break up if you aren’t the same level and it affects your workout. Depending on the type of exercise you are doing, you might need someone who is at a similar fitness level to you. For instance, If you are going to a gym to run next to each other on the treadmill then it won’t matter if you run and she walks.
If, however, you are running outside together then it will matter if you want to run and she only wants to walk. If you find that your routine is being compromised, then you might need a new buddy.
Motivation
If you do not feel like you are being motivated with your buddy or simply don’t enjoy your workouts then you might want to break up. For instance you may find that you exercise better when listening to music. Also, you may feel bad if he or she can do a lot better than you. Make sure that you feel motivated and happy with the buddy or it won’t make sense.
Do not remain with an exercise buddy just because you feel bad, shy or embarrassed about breaking up with him or her. It is very important to keep the best exercise routine possible to keep yourself fit and healthy. If your buddy is not providing a positive role, then talk to him or her. Be earnest and honest. You can then exercise on your own or find a workout buddy who will help in your exercise routine.
