Of course, for many this is the number one consideration. Hotels can be very expensive, many of them costing over $100 per night. If you are staying a week, it can easily cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars just for the hotel. Remember that you often have to pay fees and high taxes in addition to the daily rate. For many, this would be out of reach. By staying at your family’s home, you will avoid this.
You will be able to spend more time with your family
A lot of people want to spend all of the time they can with their family. When you stay at their home, you can maximize this. You can see them from right when you get up until you go to sleep at night. It can also be more convenient if you have children who sleep later or go to sleep earlier. If you were at a hotel you may have to leave to account for this.
It is more comfortable
A lot of people do not find hotels very comfortable. Some of them are dirty. You may be uncomfortable sleeping in sheets that were slept in by strangers. You may worry about using the bathroom. Even if you are not particularly paranoid about it, you might just find it more comfortable to be in your own family’s home.
It can be easier logistically
You may not need to have a rental car if you are staying with your family. This can save you money and the need to drive. In some areas there are not a lot of hotels. You may not even be able to find anything that is close enough to make sense. If you will be doing family events together then it might be nice for you to already be at the same place. If you will be together most of the time anyways and they have the room then it might just make sense.

Sometimes you will need to do it because your family might expect it. They may feel insulted if you turn down the invitation to stay with them.
