:
(402 Words)
Many people choose to use a headhunter in their job search. There are both advantages and disadvantages to using such a professional.
Pros
They may know of opportunities that you could not find on your own
A headhunter’s job is to know about job opportunities and try to match people. They may therefore have different strategies on finding possible jobs. A company may come to them first without even posting a job. You may find out about jobs through them that you would not have found otherwise.
If they can recommend you then you might have a better chance of getting the job
Many jobs are extremely competitive. It is not at all unusual for one opening to have over a hundred applicants. A headhunter can help you stand out from the crowd. They may have a relationship with the business already and their opinion that you are suitable for the job can go a long way.
There may be less people vying for the jobs
If someone has not posted a job but instead is looking to headhunters to fill it, then they may get less applicants. Having less people trying for it should increase your odds.
Cons
You may be offered less money if you do get the job
A headhunter has to make money. If you get the job, then they are going to get something for their work. The company may have only so much money that they want to spend on the position. Because they are paying money to the headhunter they may decide to offer you less.
You may have to work on their schedule
There are many easy ways to look for jobs. You can hop on the Internet at any time on websites such as www.monster.com and www.job.com. You can apply for fifteen jobs in a span of an hour. If you are only going with a headhunter, then you will have to go with his or her schedule. If you are waiting for a call back from him or her then you will just have to sit tight, but meanwhile another job can be passing you by.
You will need to consider the pros and cons of using a headhunter to decide whether one is right for you. Some people will choose to get the best of both worlds and utilize a headhunter but then also execute a job search on their own.
