Kiss me, I’m Irish! Even if you’re not, an art project related to St. Patrick’s Day can still be fun for students of all different ages. Consider the following art project ideas.
Four leaf clover project
The children might like to make something with a four leaf clover theme. They can take some green construction paper and cut it out in the shape of this. They can then decorate it by gluing on different embellishments like green rhinestones, green beads, green feathers and other green items. You can add some string to the back so that it can hang. This can make something great to decorate the classroom for the holiday.
Leprechaun mask
The children might like to pretend they are a Leprechaun with a mask. You can cut an oval out for the face with a rubber band on the back to help secure it. They can then decorate it as they think a Leprechaun would look.
St. Patrick’s Day jewelry
The children might like to make some jewelry as part of an art project. For instance, they can take all different colored green beads and strong them to make a bracelet or a necklace.
Artwork of a rainbow and a pot of gold
The legend is that you will find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You can let the children paint this scene (or color it if they are very young and it is easier for them).
St. Patrick’s Day clothing
The children might like to make a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” shirt. You can get white or green shirts to start out with. You can buy paints and markers that are specifically made for these and will not wash out. The children can then write out a St. Patrick’s Day message and whatever motifs they want related to this fun holiday. They can draw a leprechaun, a rainbow, a pot of gold, four leaf clovers or a combination of all of these.
St. Patrick’s Day ceramic piece
You can let the children decorate a ceramic piece with a St. Patrick’s Day theme. You can get a piece that is already shaped and let them paint it. You can then glaze it and fire it. They could do a mug, a plate, a decorative piece or more. They can decorate it with all different shades of green and images like four leaf clovers.
When St. Patrick’s Day comes around, an art project may be a fun way for children to get into the spirit of the holiday. Consider the above ideas for creating such a project.
