When September comes and many children are just starting school, you might want to have an art project as one of the students’ first assignments. There are many different projects that can go along with this month, including the following.
Back to school project
Because so many kids are just starting the school year, you can do an art project related to that. For instance, you can help the children get to know their classmates by having them draw a picture of the different kids in the class and label their names. You can also have them paint a scene from school such as kids sitting in class or on a school bus. You can have them draw something from a subject that you are about to teach such as having them draw the planets if you are going to start on astronomy. The kids can also make something practical for school. For instance, they may need a box to keep their pencils, crayons and other school supplies. They can take a shoebox and cover it in construction paper. They can then decorate it however they want with crayons, markers, paints, etc. They can add embellishments like glitter, beads, sequins or shapes cut from pieces of paper.
Seasonal art project
September is the month that the summer cools into the fall. The children can make an art project showing that. For instance, they can make a scene on one side of a paper that shows the warm summer. They can draw a beach scene or people playing in the warm sun. They can then turn the page over and show the same kids playing in the falling leaves, raking or doing other things that show the beginning of fall. They can also do something that is just related to fall since that is the upcoming season such as decorating a shirt with fabric leaves that are glued on or using fabric markers or paint to make a fall scene.
Labor Day art project
The children can celebrate Labor Day by making an art project. They can paint a decoration for their door that says “Happy Labor Day” and has different pictures on it. They may want to make it an All-American theme with red, white and blue paint.
There are many great art projects that students can do in the month of September. Consider the above ideas when planning your activities.
