Many little kids love bugs. This can be a fun and silly theme for your art project. Consider the following ideas.
Make a pipe cleaner spider
You can easily have the children make a spider out of pipe cleaners. They just need to take five pipe cleaners. One can be the body and they can tie the other four around to make the eight legs. They can add squiggly eyes. You can also add a string to it so that you can use it as a puppet. If you want to have a larger project then you can start with a wire hanger. Make several of the spiders, each attached to a string and then hang them all from the hanger. They can use it as a mobile in the classroom or in their bedrooms at home.
Make an egg carton caterpillar
You can take the bottom half of a Styrofoam egg carton. You can then put in pipe cleaners to be the legs. You can paint along the body to make it all different colors. You can paint or draw in two eyes and a mouth, and you have a caterpillar.
Draw a picture with all different types of bugs
If you want the art project to be very educational then you can have the children draw as many lifelike bugs as they can on paper. They can label them. This can help them to learn about and remember all of these creatures. The detail will depend on their ages.
Make clay bugs
You can get some clay and have the children make different bugs with it. They can make flies, bees and any other bugs they would like. You can buy clay that hardens on its own, which may be convenient. You can also get some that hardens in the oven.
Make a shirt with bugs crawling all over them
The children may think it is very funny to wear a shirt that looks like it has bugs crawling over it. You can get plain white shirts from an arts and crafts store like Michael’s Arts and Crafts. You can then have the children use fabric paint or markers to draw on all different types of bugs. They can use all black or make colors.
An art project about bugs can be fun for the children and teach them as well. Make sure that it is geared towards the age of the students. Consider the above art projects for your classroom.
