Go to Italy and study there
The best way to learn Italian is to be completely immersed in it. Thus, for many the best way to actually gain mastery of the language is to go where you might be forced to speak it. You can try to find a school in Italy that teaches Italian and of course you will find no shortage of individuals willing to teach it. Try to use it when you are out and about at the town.
Take a class in Italian
For many, travelling to Italy is not going to be an option. What might be, however, is to take a class in it. It could be a language school where you have a lot of classes in it or something as simple as a leisure class at a community school that you go to once or twice a week. If you are already in school like high school or college, then you may be able to take it as an elective.
Try a computer program
There are many computer programs, which can help you learn Italian. Rosetta Stone, although expensive, is a very popular one and can be very helpful. You will find many of these for very reasonable prices. A lot of them with have Italian lessons and then have quizzes for you.
Interact with people who speak Italian
If you know of anyone who is Italian, then you can ask that they speak to you in this language. Being actively involved in speaking it is often the best way to learn.
Get exposure to Italian media
Watch Italian movies with subtitles to match up the words. Read an Italian book or newspaper with an Italian dictionary. Even having it on in the background may be of use.
Listen to Italian teaching CDs
You will find many CDs that you can listen to while you drive to work, are on the bus, are on a train, etc. They may just repeat vocabulary and some may quiz you. You can make use of time you would have otherwise wasted.
Study books
There are many books on studying and learning Italian You will find a wide range of these on www.amazon.com and at booksellers like Barnes and Noble.
Oftentimes the best way to learn Italian is to combine the different methods. For instance, you can use a computer program at home, read books in Italian and speak to your Italian friend in the language. The more you do, the more likely you are to master this beautiful language.
