(414 Words)
A lot of children love Dr. Seuss. This can be a fun theme for an art project. There are different projects that one can create, including the following.
Hat from Cat in the Hat
The children can make their own hat from Cat in the Hat. If you have the money to spend you can get plain paper hats already pre-made and then just have the children decorate them with art supplies like marker, crayons, glitter and other age-appropriate tools. You can also have them make the whole thing. Using a thicker paper they can draw out the shape of a hat when it is open. They can cut it out and then fold it over and tape it together (in the way that you would make a Burger King paper crown). If they are too young, then the teacher can do this part. They can then decorate it like it is the hat from the Cat in the Hat.
Mask of a character from a Dr. Seuss story
The children can pretend to be someone from the Dr. Seuss stories when they make an art project that is a mask. You can make the plain mask for them by cutting out an oval shape of thick paper and then adding the broken rubber band to the back so that it can stay on their heads. The children can then get to work. They can decorate it as whatever character they want such as from Hop on Pop, The Cat in the Hat or The Lorax.
Illustrate their own Dr. Seuss story
The children can try a hand at being an illustrator with this next art project. You can give them a story and they can show you how they would have illustrated a scene from it. Alternatively, they can come up with their own story similar to those of Dr. Seuss. They can also try to continue one of the stories that Dr. Seuss write. They can do this on paper with paints or crayons or other art techniques that you have been teaching them. They can also cut out construction paper to make this as well.
An art project related to Dr. Seuss can be fun for the children and allow them to explore their creativity. Make sure that you do something that is geared towards the age of the children, but a lot of these projects can be adapted so that they are appropriate. Consider the above activities for your project.
