: Basic first Sentences to Learn in a new Language

When you are learning a new language you will probably want to learn some basic sentences first. Of course if you are learning for a reason such as a trip to the country or a dealing with customers or clients, then you might want to learn something that is specifically related to that. The following are some basic first sentences.
Thank you and you’re welcome
You may need a lot of help when you are first learning a new language. When people are helping you, then you might want to be able to thank them. It can also be useful to learn the proper response for when they thank you.
How are you?
You may want to be able to inquire as to how someone is doing as well as replies such as “I am fine” or “Very well.”
Where is the bathroom?
Of course this might be the first sentence you want to learn if you will be visiting a foreign country. You will want to be able to find the facilities.
What time is it?
You may want to be able to find out the time when you are in a foreign country. You can learn this phrase so that you will know. You may also want to learn the numbers to go along with it so that you can translate their answer.
Where is it?/Where am I?
You may be looking for something or you may be lost and need to get an idea of where you are. This can be a great basic sentence to learn.
I am hot/cold
You may want to be able to express how you feel with the temperature. This is usually a fairly basic sentence.
I am sick
You want to be able to let others know if you are not feeling well. This sentence can accomplish this.
Where is the exit?
If you are going to a foreign country, then you will definitely want to be able to find your way out of any building or area that you are in. Even if you do not understand a word of their response, they can still show you or point to the way out.
I am hungry
A lot of people want to be able to express that they want to eat. This can be a good sentence to start with as you are learning anew language.
There are many basic sentences that can be useful when you are learning a new language. Some of them can help provide the building blocks to learn more complex sentences whereas others will be useful if you are going on a trip.
