: Student Art Projects Weather Theme

(426 Words)
If you want your students to do an art project, then consider one that is related to the weather. This can be educational as well as fun for them to do. Consider the following ideas
Cloud placemat
The children can make their own little cloud placemat. You can purchase a very plain placemat, which are usually not too expensive. You can then give them paints that are made for that material. Make sure that it is something that will be able to withstand heat if they will be putting hot plates down on them. They can then draw out different shapes of clouds. If they are older, you can ask they draw out specific types like stratus, so that the project can help them to learn about them. You can also have them draw out other things related to the weather such as the sun, lightning and rain.
Rain mobile
The children can make a rain mobile. They will need a wire hanger and some pieces of string or ribbon. They will then take construction paper and cut out little rain droplets. They can make them all blue in color or all different colors. They can paint them or add embellishments. They can then glue these on to the strings, putting as many as they want on each string. You can then tie the strings to the hanger to make your mobile.
You can also further use the mobile idea with other weather phenomenon. For instance, instead of making them all strings with raindrops you can put a lightning bolt at the end of one, clouds at the end of another, snowflakes at the end of another and so forth.
Scene of the weather from the different seasons
The children can start with a poster board or a large sheet of paper. They can separate it into four different sections, one for each of the seasons. They can then draw or paint a scene of what the weather is like during that season. During the winter, they may show a snow scene. During the summer they can show a hot sun. They can also show things like rain or wind.
They can take the art project in a different direction. Instead of showing the four seasons they can separate it into different sections to show the different weather phenomenon. For instance, one section can show rain, another hail, another snow, etc.
An art project on the weather can help teach children about their environment. One or more of the above projects may work for your class.
