When Valentine’s Day comes around, you might want to have your students make a special art project. There are many different things that they can create, including the following.
Valentine’s Day cards
Instead of the students buying Valentine’s Day cards, they can make them themselves. This will probably be much more special to the recipients. You can have them make them for the parents, family members, or friends. You can give them red construction paper, which they can fold in half. They can decorate it with different art supplies such as paints, crayons and markers. They can glue on embellishments like feathers, beads, ribbons, crystals and other items. They can use stickers to decorate them as well, and can write whatever they want. If you are having them make a lot, then they can just be little cards that they decorate.
Valentine’s Day hanging decoration
The children can make a Valentine’s Day for their home or classroom. You simply need to have the kids bring in or get a wire hanger for each of the kids. You can have the kids cut out Valentine’s Day shapes such as heart, cupids, flowers, etc. If they are too young, you can cut it out for them. Then they can decorate the paper hearts as described above. They can also glue different colored paper or foil on it. You can use a hole puncher to make a hole at the top of each heart and then can use a string to attach them to the hanger. They can make as many hanging designs as they want at the same or different lengths.
Valentine’s Day bouquet of flowers
The children might like to make their own “bouquet of flowers” to give to a loved one on Valentine’s Day. Have them each take a coffee filter and color them with markers or paints that will not wash away with water. You can then wet the coffee filter and fold it up in the shape of a flower. Twist a green pipe cleaner around it to make the stem of the flowers. You can have them make one or a whole bunch of flowers. Alternatively they can also draw or paint flowers on paper.
There are many great Valentine’s Day art projects for students. Make sure that it is appropriate for the ages of the students but many of the projects can be slightly adapted for different groups. Consider the above ideas when planning your projects.
