You may need to fit a lot in that tiny dorm room. It is important to time the time and effort to carefully consider what you want to bring so that you can still enjoy the comforts of home. Some items you may want to bring include the following.
A limited amount of clothing
Unless you have a very small wardrobe, you are not going to want to take it all. Find out exactly how much closet space you have and bring only what will fit. Try to get in the major groups: some casual clothing, a fancy outfit for going out, a suit for professional occasions (if necessary), a jacket, etc. You may also want to get a closet organizer to help you fit more things in.
A caddy to take back and forth to the bathroom
If you are going to go back and forth to a bathroom down the hall, then you might want a shower caddy to take everything in. You can get something small to fit your soap, conditioner, shampoo, razor, etc.
Desk organizer
You might find it easier to keep your desk in order if you have a desk organizer. You can buy one that is already filled with items such as a stapler, scissors, etc. Of course you will also need your school supplies like a backpack, pens, pencils, etc.
Laundry supplies
A lot of people keep a laundry bag to store their used laundry in. You may also want a laundry basket as well for your clean clothing.
Bedding
You will probably need to bring your own bedding. You might want a second sheet set as an extra. Oftentimes you will need the thinner extra long sheets for the college dorm beds. Do not forget a blanket and pillow.
Pictures
It can be difficult to leave home. You might want to bring a few pictures to remind you of your family. You can also bring an album or a few mementos.
More expensive items
There are some larger items you may want for your dorm room. Some of these you may want to chip in with your roommates for such as a microwave or a television. Most college students will also have a desktop or a laptop computer. You might want other gadgets such as an MP3 Player and a camera to record all of those college memories.
Packing for college can be tough. The school will often give you a list of the necessary supplies. Consider those and the above items when deciding what to bring.
