How to Make a Childs Play Time more Educational

Just because it is play time does not mean that it can’t be educational. There are different ways that you can merge fun and practicality. Consider the following strategies.
Encourage the children to play educational games
There are many great educational games. For instance, Monopoly can help the children learn how to use money and math. Scrabble can help kids with their vocabulary. There are many board games specifically geared towards helping a child learn their abcs, numbers or other principles. In addition, a lot of kids love to play video games. Many of these on systems like the portable Leapster are very educational. They may learn to recognize colors for instance. They may learn reading or writing skills. There are also many free games on the Internet. They are all geared towards different age ranges so make sure that you get one that is right for the age of your children.
Make role-playing games educational
A lot of children love to play role playing games. They may pretend to be princesses, firemen, superheroes and more. They may also do this with their dolls. When you are doing this with them, try to insert some educational ideals. For instance, you can role play the importance of sharing and of being nice to people. You can show your children good ways to behave.
Use sports and other competitions to teach about fair play
Sports can be more than just fun. A lot of kids count sports as a major part of their playtime and this can do double-duty as a learning activity. You can teach kids about the importance of taking turns as well as the importance of fair play. You can talk about good sportsmanship. As they are playing for instance, you can say “And now it is Billy’s turn. It is good that we each get a chance to play.” You can also let them keep score, which might help them with numbers.
Let them learn through art projects
A lot of kids do different art projects while they play, and this can be educational. They can learn about different colors. You can have them draw important things such as animals that you can then teach them about.
In almost everything a child does during play time, you might be able to tie it into something that is educational. Use the above tips to help you in this endeavor.
