How to Plan a Party to welcome the Neighbors

One very nice thing to do is to plan a party to welcome the neighbors. It is something that can get your relationship off to the right start. Consider the following tips for planning such a gathering.
First decide the logistics of the party
You want your party to be convenient for your neighbors, thus you should first consult them when deciding when to have it. If you want a lot of people to be able to come, then you might want to plan it for a weekend or at least an evening. Also, consider where you want to have it. A lot of people choose to have it in their home since this can be less money, but there might be a neighborhood community center, park or restaurant that would work well. Decide how long you want it to be. Also make a budget so that you are sure that you can afford it. You can tell people about it, use an online invitation service such as evite or send out party invitations.
Get party supplies
You will need party supplies for your party to welcome the neighbors. You can get pretty generic paper plates from a source like Oriental Trading Company or a party store like Party City. You can save money by looking at a dollar store like the Dollar Tree. Make sure that you get enough plates, cups, napkins, tablecloths and such for people. You can put up decorations like banners that say “Welcome to the Neighborhood” or “We Are So Glad that You Are Here!”
Plan the food
You will want to have some great food for your party. One fun idea is to make it a potluck and have everyone except the new neighbors bring a dish. It is a very common gesture to cook something for new neighbors, so this can be a great way to welcome them to the neighborhood. With a potluck, the cost is also shared. Alternatively you can make the food yourself or cater in from somewhere.
Plan fun activities
There are many great activities you can do. You want people to get to know the new neighbors. One idea is to have everyone anonymously write a special fact about them (such as they are a vegetarian, used to be on their college football team, climbs mountains as a hobby, etc). Everyone has to guess what characteristic goes with which person. You can also have everyone talk about themselves and welcome the family.
A welcoming party for new neighbors is a fantastic gesture. Consider the above tips for planning such a party.
