Ideas for a 50s Sock Hop Party
Just because the 50s are long gone does not mean that you can’t have a fantastic sock hop party. The following are some fun ideas for such an event.
Decorate like it is the 50s
When people walk into your party, you want them to feel like they have just walked right back into the 1950s. You can try to find some items from the past such as an old jukebox. There are many cut-outs you can get with this theme such as music notes. You can print out different pictures from the Internet of scenes from the 1950s. If you have pictures from sock hops that you actually went to during that time, then you can blow them up and put them all over the walls. You can have a television on with videos of movies that have 50s sock hop scenes in them. In addition, you can get party supplies like paper plates, cups and so forth with those images. There are also different places like diners with party rooms that can look just perfect as the background.
Have people dress the part
To really get the feel for a 50s sock hop party, you can ask that they come dressed in the clothing of the time, in the big poodle skirts and other clothing. There are many places that rent clothing like that and many people might have some things in their closets still. Also, if you want, you can buy some inexpensive costumes and supply them for your guests. Even some small accessories can go a long way in getting everyone into the part.
Look for 50s music
It won’t be a 50s sock hop party without the 50s music. You can find popular music from that time that is great to listen to. A lot of that has a great beat and is just perfect to listen and dance to. You can also buy CDs that are a compilation of dance music from that time.
Bring in a dance instructor/leader
One fun idea is to bring in a dance instructor or leader to help show people some of the moves from the 50s. They can show how you really would have danced during that time. They can also help get people in the spirit.
A 50s sock hop party can be a lot of fun for everyone, from little children to senior citizens. Consider the above ideas when planning such a party.
