Factors that Contribute to Divorce
There are a variety of factors that contribute to divorce. Sometimes it is one issue while other times a variety of things can pop up. The following are some such issues.
There is another person
One thing that leads to a lot of divorces is one spouse cheating on the other. This happens in an unfortunate amount of cases. Sometimes it is a onetime event that can derail a marriage and sometimes a long-standing occurrence. To help avoid this, a person might want to decide whether they want the commitment of marriage before agreeing to it and not place themselves in situations when they could get involved with someone else.
The Internet
The Internet has brought many people together but it has unfortunately driven many apart. Sometimes people get addicted to online places such as chat rooms and social networking websites like Facebook. They may spend more time there than with their spouse. Also, they may talk to others in an inappropriate manner, which may serve to further derail the marriage. They may see others on there as a fantasy and imagine the perfect people.
Not communicating
Simply not communicating well can lead to situations that bring on divorce. For instance, there may be small issues that come up. If they are addressed then they can be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, but if not resentment may grow. Over time people may become more and more unhappy with the situation. Also, if you do not talk to your spouse then you might start to feel less connected to them. This could also worsen to the point that you do not feel like you know who they are anymore and you get a divorce.
Not spending quality time together
It is important for you to spend quality time together. You should be able to enjoy your marriage instead of it always being about chores, errands or work.
Being mean to each other
Sometimes it just becomes a habit that people are mean to each other. It should be the opposite – you should go out of your way to be kind to your spouse because of whom they are. Divorce may come when people feel like they are tired of fighting.
Of course, there are always more serious factors that can lead to divorce such as alcoholism. If you wish to do what you can to avoid a divorce, try to address any of the above issues if they are present in your marriage.
