A graduation ceremony contains many teachable moments that can serve to be very educational to your children. The following are some lessons you might impart to your kids.
Teach them about what you can accomplish when you work hard to finish school
Many young children might be awed by a graduation ceremony. Everyone is making such a big deal of the accomplishments of the graduates, and rightly so. You can talk to your children about how the students have earned a spot in the graduation ceremony by attending school and working hard to accomplish the subjects. You can talk to them about how it might be them one day if they continue to work hard.
Teach them about what a graduation ceremony can lead to
A lot of people at the graduation ceremony might be discussing the future. You can talk about what graduation can lead to such as college and jobs. The children might be awed by where it can lead.
Teach them about proper etiquette during a graduation ceremony
A teachable moment at a graduation ceremony involves patience. Graduation ceremonies can be very long and can be boring for even the most patient of people. It can be difficult to sit still while you are listening to name after name but it can be good practice for similar situations you might find in real life. The children can try to increase their attention span by politely and considerately listening to the graduation ceremony. You can explain to your child why it is so important to be quiet. You can try to teach them empathy and ask how they would feel if they were up there and someone else was talking. They probably wouldn’t like it.
Teach them about the different types of people
At a graduation ceremony, the children will probably see a lot of different people and hear names representing various cultures. You can take this opportunity to teach the children about how everyone is different and that people have different physical appearances. You can discuss how people might come from all different countries and they might have different types of names. You can talk about how although people are not the same on the outside, they still have a lot of the same feelings on the inside.
There are many teachable moments that can occur at a graduation ceremony. Consider imparting the above lessons when at such an event.
