Some preschoolers might have difficulty learning their teachers’ names. There are different things that you can do in order to help them learn the teachers’ names. These tools might also be helpful in helping them remember other things as well. The following are some techniques you might want to try.
Have them say the name over and over again
Sometimes the simplest way is what works best. Have them practice the name. You can tell them that they should say your name every time they address you. So they can say “Yes, Mrs. Smith” or “Excuse me, Mrs. Smith.” By just saying it over and over again, there is a good chance that they will remember it.
Think of other tings that sound like the name
You can have the children try to think of other things that sound like your name to help them try to remember it. For instance, if the teacher’s name is Mr. Price, then you can talk to them about how it sounds like the word “price.” If it not an exact word, then you can try to think of something that it sounds like to help them remember it.
Play a game related to the name
You could make up some sort of game to help the students learn the teachers’ names. It could be something as simple as quizzing them or each other. You could use a regular board game as a base if you want to get more complicated but instead of the regular game pieces, somehow substitute questions related to the teachers’ names. They could get points for remembering the teachers’ names. This can be a fun way for them to learn the teachers’ names.
Have them use the name for something else
For instance, they could name one of their dolls with the same name. Or they could name something else with the name. This might help them to remember it because they will associate it with more things and might just be hearing it more.
Have them write out the letter and the name (if they can)
Depending on how old they are and how advanced they are, they may be able to write out the name (with help) or at least the first letter. Help them do this to help them remember the names.
