Classroom Decorating Ideas for Valentines Day
Valentine’s Day is a sweet holiday, and you can share some of this with your students by decorating the classroom appropriately. There are many decorations that will go well with this holiday.
Hearts
Of course, hearts are very much associated with Valentine’s Day. You can line the walls of the classroom with them. You can take construction paper or even poster board and cut out hearts of all different shapes and colors (although you may want to consider the pink and red colors the most). You can put them on the board, attach them to your desk, put them all over the doors, etc. You can also buy “cling-ons” that stick to windows and other surfaces. You can also make some hearts out of construction paper, punch a hole in the top, attach a string to them and hang them from the ceiling.
You can also get the kids involved with hearts. You can give them crayons, markers or paint and paper and let them decorate a heart however they want. They can also add embellishments like glitter, crystals, sequins, beads, etc.
Sweet sayings
You can also put up signs and banners with sweet sayings about Valentine’s Day. They can be simple and say something like “Happy Valentine’s Day.” You can have them have nice messages like “You’re the best!” “Sweet friends,” and “Be mine.” You can have the kids come up with their own (appropriate) messages to display.
Books on Valentine’s Day
In many classrooms they emphasize reading. You can incorporate this into your Valentine’s Day decorations. You can line your desk or other surfaces with books about Valentine’s Day, which you can then read to the class. You can also post books on the wall (or their covers).
Miscellaneous Valentine’s Day decorations
You can get red or pink streamers to place all over the classroom. You can put up pictures of cupids. You will often find red teddy bears and other dolls for this holiday, too. Combine these different items to make a varied and stellar display for your classroom.
Valentine’s Day is a great time to decorate for the holidays. You can make the decorations yourself or you can purchase them. You will find these at places such as Oriental Trading Company (through the catalogs and online) as well as Target and even the dollar stores. Save them from year to year to make your wonderful classroom.
