You might not think of something that you are going to be stepping on as an important decision, however flooring can make a big difference in your home. It can change the look of your home tremendously and is hopefully not something you will change constantly. You are going to want to take a lot of things into consideration when choosing flooring for your home. The following are some tips on what to do to make this decision.
Make a budget
Before you even start looking at flooring, you might want to come up with an idea of how much you want to spend. Flooring can range substantially, with certain flooring being many times the costs of other flooring. Before you see something that you fall in love with and ultimately can’t afford, you might want to decide what you can afford.
What type of feel do you want?
The different types of flooring will feel very different under your feet. Do you want a plush carpet to sink your feet into? Do you want a hard wood? Think about what you want to feel.
How do you want it to look?
A thick carpet will portray something very different than a hard wood. Again, think about how the room will look with the different types of flooring. If possible, you might want to bring a little sample of the flooring home so that you can put it in the room and see how it looks. This might give you an idea.
Do you have kids?
This is an important question when choosing flooring because it might dictate what you can get. If you have small children, you might want to be careful about getting a floor that can easily be damaged or nicked. A pure white floor might be difficult to upkeep if you have five boys who are all in soccer three days a week and who love to track mud into the house. In addition, you might be wary of getting a very hard ceramic floor if your kids are always running around and falling over each other onto the floor.
Do you have allergies?
If you have allergies you might want to stay away from a lot of the carpeting. This can collect dust easier and might make you more likely to have a flare-up of your allergies.
How much work do you want to put into it?
Different floors require less or more work. With some of them you might need to clean or polish it more. Others might be much easier to maintain and might hide small stains easier.
Consider the above factors when choosing new flooring for your home.
