Curtains can provide an attractive look for your windows as well as provide light blockage and privacy. You will have all of the colors of the rainbow from which to choose, and you are not limited to one. You will need to consider various factors when deciding what colors to choose.
Consider the colors that you like
Of course you want to like the colors of your curtains. Different colors portray different emotions. If you want something cheerful, then yellow like the sun may be perfect. You may want something in natural beige or green to remind you of nature. You might want something bold and daring and thus go with a fire engine red.
If your windows are not highly tinted, then you should also think about how the curtains will look from the outside of your house. You want it to look good from both the inside and out.
Consider how it goes with the room
Curtains are but one design aspect of a room. You want them to go well with the rest of the room. Think about the color scheme. If everything in the room is painted in shades of blues and purple, then bright orange curtains may not look good. Of course there can be some contrasting but it needs to work well. It may pick up colors from furniture, artwork or other items in the room.
Some people will also use curtains to add a pop of color to an otherwise plain room. If this is your goal, then think about the colors that go with the room.
Consider how light is blocked
Certain colors are much better at blocking light than others. Of course it depends partly on the thickness, material and design of the curtains but all things being equal, darker colors block more light. If you want the room to be completely darkened, then you should consider how the particular color blocks light.
Think about the purpose for the room
Most people will not have the same color curtains for all of the rooms of the house. If you are purchasing the curtains for a baby girl’s or baby boy’s room, then you may get pale pink or baby blue, respectively. For a study, you may like a navy blue or another dark color.
Of course, you can also look at curtains with different designs. For something fun, choose a print that has different colors incorporated into it. Get samples or try the curtains out if you can. In the end, find the one that suits the room the best.
