Designing a Baby Nursery

(433 Words)
With a new baby coming, you are probably very excited to decorate your newborn’s room. There are many things to consider when creating the nursery of your dreams.
Safety
Of course your first consideration should be safety. You do not want a heavy decoration that could fall on your child and hurt him or her. You do not want something with small detachable pieces that could become choking hazards. Make sure everything is appropriate for your child and firmly attached to the wall.
Versatility
You might be ready to spend thousands of dollars to decorate your baby’s room in yellow rubber duckies, however consider versatility when decorating the room. How long will your child want yellow duckies on the wall? Some nurseries have designs that can last well into childhood whereas others will be very quickly outgrown. That’s not to say that you should not decorate with duckies, just consider how long the different designs will last, especially if you are spending a lot of time, effort and money on the design. You might be able to find something you like just as well but will last longer.
You can also look for furnishings that are meant for a baby but can be converted for use with an older child. For instance, they sell chests of drawers that have changing tables on the top. They can be turned over to just be a chest of drawers without the changing table. In addition, some types of furniture have decorations for a little one that can be switched around to be plain. For instance, one bedroom set has pirate panels that can be turned around to plain wood.
Style
Carefully consider the style of your baby’s nursery, and make sure that it is not just something that you will like, but something that he or she would like. For instance, you might love black and white, but your daughter might really love pink once she is a little older. Some parents might save the major decorating until the baby is a tiny bit older and can give some input.
Think about what babies love to look at. Babies love to look at faces, thus you might want to put a lot of pictures of the family. Also, consider bright colors. You should also contemplate the functionality of the different pieces. For instance, a mirror is not only pretty but will provide a function to your child as he or she grows.
Your child’s nursery is his or her first home. The above points can help you create a beautiful nursery for your child to enjoy.
