How to help get your Child Fit

Playing outside can increase a child’s fitness level and set him or her up for a lifetime of healthy physical activity. There are a number of ways that you can encourage outdoor activity in your child or children.
Start early
First it is important to start young. Do not wait until your child is 10 and then start taking him or her outside. Start from when he or she is a very little baby so that he or she learns that spending time moving around outdoors is a great thing to do.
Discover local resources
Take your child places where he or she can get great physical activity outdoors. For instance, there are many different playgrounds in all areas. Take your child to a playground that is age appropriate. Do this on a regular basis and encourage him or her to climb, jump and play. You can make play dates with other kids so that your child gets accustomed to playing with friends outdoors. Try to make friends who are interested in this.
Make your backyard fun
You can also set up ways that the child can play outdoors. For instance, you can fence in your yard so that your child has a nice area in which to play. Buy things that provide fun activities. For example, you can buy a basketball and a basketball hoop. You could also buy a baseball or soccer set. You can also buy other items that are made for the outdoors such as bicycles and roller skates.
A playground set is a great way to encourage your children to get healthy physical activity outdoors. They sell many different types at different price points for kids of all different ages. Buy one that will grow with your children as they get older. You can also buy a trampoline or even a bounce house.
You can look for seasonal items. In the summer buy water fun toys such as slip and slides and wading pools. Make sure that you supervise your children at all times with these. If you live in an area that gets snow in the winter, than you can buy things so that he or she can go sledding.
The family that plays together…
The most important thing you can do to encourage your child to get outside and play is to join him or her. Go throw around a ball with your little one. Jump on the bounce house with him. Spend quality time with him or her outside.
