Tips for your Babys Wardrobe
Anticipating the arrival of a new bundle of joy, you may be tempted to purchase each and every cute outfit you set your sights on. There are many items that would be uncomfortable or even dangerous for a baby, however, and these should be avoided.
Clothing with fabrics that don’t “breathe”
Fabrics that “breathe” allow for the evaporation of body moisture. This keeps the baby more comfortable, especially when it is hot. It can even help avoid rashes. Cotton is an excellent choice and will help keep your baby comfortable. Clothing with fabrics that do not breathe as well, such as synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester, should be avoided unless you plan on using undershirts of cotton underneath them.
Outfits that do not allow you to change your baby’s diaper easily
You may not like the look of the snaps on the baby’s outfits, but you will love them when you are changing your tenth diaper of the day. Most baby outfits allow you to easily change a diaper, but some lack this convenience. No matter how seamless it makes the outfit look, you will not want to put your baby in it if you have to remove the entire outfit every time you change a diaper.
Clothing with tight elastic
You do not want your baby’s circulation to get cut off by the clothing. Some outfits have bands of elastic on the sleeves or pants. If it could leave red marks, it should be avoided.
Outfits with large, rough or raised seams
You do not want your baby to feel uncomfortable while lying on a thick seam. They should be flat and barely discernible. Also, do not get items that have a lot of items on it that the baby can feel while lying down. Avoiding trims that may be itchy or irritating.
Anything with items that can come off
You might like homemade clothing with items glued or otherwise fastened on, but make sure that everything is safe. For instance, it would be dangerous if a baby swallowed crystals, so make sure you don’t buy a handmade shirt with crystals glued on it.
Outfits that are inappropriate for the weather
Babies are sensitive to both the heat and the cold. The exact way you should dress them will depend on their exact age as well as the exact weather in your area. Speak to your pediatrician about the clothing appropriate in your case and make sure the clothing follows it.
No matter how cute an outfit looks, it will not work if it is inconvenient, uncomfortable or dangerous. Avoid the above clothing when planning your baby’s wardrobe.
