There are many reasons one might choose a gender neutral theme for a baby’s nursery. You might decorate the room before the birth of the baby, whose gender you do not know. The room may be for both a boy or girl, or you might want to use it for subsequent children. There are many different themes that work well for both girls and boys.
Animals
Boys and girls alike love animals, and they make many nursery sets that center around animals. You can buy a bedding set with colorful animals on it. Decorate with stuffed dolls of different animals. You can paint a mural of a forest in the bedroom, and include real or fake plants to make it seem authentic. Line it with animal themed wallpaper.
You can also choose a particular animal as the theme for the room. Yellow duckies are a common nursery theme and is available in wallpaper and other decorations. You may want little moneys or puppies as the main theme.
Underwater
Make your child a beautiful room that focuses on the sea. Blue walls and floors can create the look of an underwater paradise. Draw, paint or stencil fish and coral on the walls, and get a mobile with fish. Look for dolls of fish and a fish-themed crib set.

There are many popular characters that are equally as appealing to boys and girls. For instance, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and the Disney gang are beloved by people of both genders. This popular character is also the subject of numerous pieces of bedroom nursery furniture. You will find it on bedding sets, curtains, rugs and numerous decorations.
Another popular character that little ones enjoy is Winnie the Pooh. This is also usually seen among the selection at the baby stores such as Babies R Us. There are many other characters that you can look at including Barney the Dinosaur and Sesame Street.
Sunny day/night stars
Decorate the room with scenes from the sky. You can decorate part of all of the room with sky blue paint. Add white wispy clouds. Put in a rainbow and birds flying in the sky. If you desire, you can make another part of the room look like the night sky with twinkling stars and a sleepy moon. Get a bedding set that showcases the sun or the stars. Get a mobile with stars and a projector that displays the stars on the ceiling.
