2282 Words: 407
There are many banks vying for your business. Different banks target different people so there is not necessarily one bank that is going to be right for everyone. There are different things that you will want to inquire about when considering your banks. The following are what to look for when choosing a bank.
No or low fees
Different banks charge different fees for various services. Some banks such as Wachovia offer free checking accounts. This may be useful for a lot of people. The fees range a lot, so you will want to go to the bank and inquire about the fees for the particular accounts and services that you require. Obviously, you will want to choose one that has as low fees as possible.
Hours that work with your schedule
You will want to look to make sure the hours will work for you. The standard banker’s hours are not quite as standard anymore, with some banks offering extended hours and weekend service. If you will need services outside of regular business hours, then you might want to consider that. Also, consider the services you can receive from the ATMs, which are always open.
How widespread are they
Having a bank that is more widespread might be advantageous. It might make it more convenient to go to the bank or stop by an ATM if they have different locations that you can visit. You may want to look for one that is the most convenient to you.
Good policies for you.
Different banks will have different policies for their accounts. You will want to look at these, and find the ones that are the most compatible with what you are looking for.
Good interest rates
If you are looking to get an interest-bearing account, then you will obviously want the best return for your money. Look at the banks to see the different accounts and what they offer. These can range tremendously, even within banks, so look at all of the different options available to you.
Good customer service/tellers
You want to make sure that you feel that the bank can competently handle your account and any problems that arise. You will want to find a place that has good customer service should you need assistance. You want to feel that they are working with you, not against you. You want a bank that will be flexible and give you the benefit of the doubt.
