A divorce can be extremely stressful. Even those of use who are normally very levelheaded may feel their tempers begin to rise. Oftentimes the people on the other side do things that are far from considerate, and they may betray you and lie and do whatever they can to hurt you. No matter what he or she does, it is best if you can keep your temper. Losing your temper will serve little purpose, and sometimes it is what they want. There are different techniques that you can try in order to help you accomplish this, including the following.
Meditate
Meditation is a wonderful way for people to calm themselves. There are different ways you can do this. They sell audio CDs that have different types of meditations. Many of them deal with stress and bad tidings that are occurring in your life. You can listen to these when you start to feel your temper start to rise, and for many it will be enough to calm them down. Oftentimes these are not too long and may only take a few minutes. You could also just listen to them at random times as a preventative measure. You might just be able to be calmer in general for their use.
You can also find many meditations that you can do yourself in times that you feel stressed. You will find many books on this as well as information on the Internet. In addition there are different classes on meditation that you can go to as well as counselors who might be able to help you learn how to do this. This might help you remain calm and thinking clearly.
Count to ten
It is what we tell our children, but it works for adults, too. Sometimes if you feel yourself starting to get really angry, counting to ten and breathing slow will give you the time you need to get yourself under control. You can do it as many times as you need in order to feel calm.
Think of the good in your life
Some people may be able to stave off an attack of the temper by thinking about the good parts of their lives, as well as the good people in their lives. You may want to think about your children if you have kids or about the people who have supported you. If you are religious, then you can think about your religion. You may need a time out from thinking about your ex and the divorce so think about good things instead. If he or she does something that is childish, then don’t let it get you riled up.
