Teaching Tips Help Preschoolers Learn Good Manners
It is important to teach children good manners when they are young so that can utilize them as they grow. There are many ways that you can teach children of this age good manners, but the lessons should be simple so that they can grasp and understand them. As much as possible they should be active participants in the lessons instead of just sitting and listening to an adult lecturing about them. The following are teaching tips for helping preschoolers learn good manners.
Have them practice in the classroom. You can have them practice good manners such as saying “please” and “thank you,” letting others who are elderly have their seats and so forth. You can show them the way to have good manners and put them into pairs and groups so that they can practice. Then they can show the class. You can also have them try to explain why it is important to have good manners.
Have them draw different scenes where people are showing good manners
Many preschoolers love to draw and this can be a great way for them to learn about good manners. You could have them draw different scenes where people are showing good manners. For instance, you could have them draw a picture where someone is holding open a door for someone who is in a wheelchair. You will probably not be able to tell that that is what is in the drawing, but they will be able to tell and that is all that matters.
Play a game about manners
You could make up some sort of game to play that involves manners. You can make it a quiz game where you ask the children about good manners and if they get it right they can move a board piece or take a step forward. You might be able to take an existing board game and modify the questions to be about good manners. Also, there may be different teaching tools that already incorporate this.
Have a class discussion
You can just have a class discussion about good manners. Make sure that you have the children be involved in the discussion. The children can come up with their own examples of good manners and talk about why they are important.
