It is important for students to learn about safety. It can help keep them from getting hurt. There are many safety lessons you should teach them and many ways that you can do this. The following are some tips for helping preschoolers learn about safety.
Have the children do crafts related to safety
There are many crafts that you can do that are related to safety. For instance, let’s say you are trying to teach them about fire safety. You could have them do a craft of making a fire hat so that they can be reminded of the different fire safety rules. If you are teaching them about dialing 911 in the case of an emergency, then you can have them make a phone out of construction paper. Because they are so young, you may have to help them with these projects. If you think about the different safety lessons, you will probably be able to come up with different crafts for each one. The Internet is another great resource for finding crafts.
Have them role-play safety situations
There are many different safety scenarios that you can have them role-play. For instance, you could role play what they should do if they meet a stranger or if they get lost. You can show them what to do and then have them do it. They could also practice calling 911, getting out of the house if there is a fire, walking across the street the right way or doing another play about safety. You could have them practice with each other and then show how to do it in front of the entire class.
Have them draw safety scenes
Many preschoolers like to draw, even though they may be the only ones who can interpret their work. You can have them draw different scenes related to safety principles. For instance, they could draw what they would do if they see a fire or a stranger. They could draw a picture of how you safely use utensils or scissors.
Have a class discussion
You can have a class discussion over the different safety principles. Do not just lecture to the kids – have them be active participants so that they are more likely to remember it.
