Paper invitations are the traditional route to sending out birthday invitations. Nowadays, however, many people have chosen to go the route of electronic invitations or even just word of mouth. There are certain advantages that remain from the use of paper invitations, however. The following are some of these advantages.
It seems more formal
There is something formal about sending out paper invitations. It is generally more work than the other methods, and it shows. To make them and then send them out or hand deliver shows more effort and might convey a different message about the party. A lot of times you send one out as a nice gesture even to someone you know who cannot come (such as a grandma who lives in a different state).
It makes a good reminder that people can keep up
